Mental Health Tip #1
What we focus on the most directly effects how we feel. Here is some advice to keep a more positive mental attitude in the midst of a very negative world: " ...you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious - the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not to curse." Philippians 4:8 The Message
Parenting Tip #1
"Parents, do not come down too hard on your children or you'll crush their spirits."
Colossians 3:21. The Message
Your kids didn't come with an owners manual. Now what?
Did you ever wish that the obstetrician handed you an owner's manual when you got your child? It would have made life a whole lot easier. How do we teach our kids to survive and thrive in this crazy world we live in? Why do we wind up doing the every things we swore we would never do to our kids that our parents did to us?
The good news is there are answers to these questions. You see, teaching our kids to survive and thrive in this society, while protecting and providing for them is exactly what the role of parenting is all about. We want to see our children grow up to be responsible, courageous, and able to problem solve on their own (with our help of course!) in order to make it in this world. That's where parenting training can help - building your confidence, responsibility, and problem-solving!
1,2,3,4 Parent!
The preschool years are a great time of bonding with your child. There is so much development going on it is hard to keep up. The child goes from diapers and formula to potty training and eating solid food. They begin to communicate with gurgles, crying and coos to "No!" and "I can do it myself!" The whole world is place of discovery for them. Sticking everything into their mouth one minute to making a pirate ship out of a box the next it seems. It is enough to wear you out!
1,2,3,4 Parent! by Dr. Michael Popkin is designed to equip you to understand these phases of development and provide skills at each level to help you protect and provide for your little one. Active Parenting of Teens
When asked why a group of parents of teens were attending a parenting class, one dad summed it up for most of them by saying, "We're al here for the same reason. We are all scared to death!" Now that was honest on his part! The teen years are also a rapidly changing set of developments. Your teen goes from playing with GI Joe's and riding bikes to wanting to date the girl next door and drive a car. Then there is the whole issue of your teen wanting and needing expanding freedom but within safe limits that coincide with their level of responsibility. Oh yeah, and then there is the dangers of sexual experimentation and alcohol and other drug abuse.
Active Parenting of Teens by Dr. Michael Popkin equips you as a parent to help you navigate the hazardous waters of parenting teens. In a six-session interactive format with other parents of teens, you will learn communication skills, problem-solving, discipline and how to be an effective guide to your teenager. The subject of communicating values to your teens concerning alcohol and other drugs, sexual behaviors and gang violence are explored in a safe and encouraging environment.
